The Lord’s Supper is a memorial of the covenant made with God through the blood of Christ. It is a continuation of the Passover feast, which God commanded his covenant people to observe. Those who have made covenant with God through the blood of Christ and have been water baptised are instructed to participate. The church participates in the Lord’s Supper as a body or family, in fellowship adding to the blessedness of the experience.
Exodus 12:11;
This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the Lord’s Passover.
Mark 14:24;
“This is my blood of the[a] covenant, which is poured out for many,” he said to them.
Luke 22:19-20;
19 And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.”
20 In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.
1 Corinthians 10:16;
Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?
1 Corinthians 1:23-26;
23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.
26 Brothers and sisters, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth.
